Privacy Policy

1. What we collect
- Account: name, email, and a secure version of your password (or your Google profile if you sign in with Google).
- Profile: avatar image, current Japanese level, and daily goal.
- Learning activity: lessons completed, missions attempted, quiz scores, streak, vocabulary review history, and achievements.
- Billing: plan history, payment amounts, and subscription status. We never see or store your card details — our payment partner handles that.
- AI chat: the messages you send to Sensei and Sensei's replies, plus how much credit each reply used.
- Technical: IP address, device, browser, and timestamps. Used to keep your account safe.
- Anonymous usage: page views and clicks, used to improve the product. You can opt out by enabling “Do Not Track” in your browser.
2. How we use it
- Run and personalize your learning experience (level, recommendations, streak).
- Process payments and grant credits.
- Send you account email — welcome, payment receipts, low-credit reminders, password reset.
- Detect abuse and prevent fraud.
- Improve the product using anonymous, grouped statistics.
3. Trusted partners
A few trusted partners help us run Japanse. We share only what they need:
- Payment partner — processes your purchases and refunds.
- AI partner — powers Sensei's replies. Your messages are sent to them so they can answer you.
- Email partner — delivers account email such as receipts and reset codes.
- Cloud hosting — runs our app and stores your data securely.
- Image storage — keeps your avatar and lesson images.
- Sign-in partner (optional) — lets you sign in with Google.
We do not sell, rent, or trade your data.
4. Cookies & saved settings
- Sign-in cookies keep you logged in.
- Anonymous analytics cookies help us understand how the site is used.
- Browser storage remembers small preferences (such as whether you finished onboarding). Never sensitive data.
5. How long we keep data
- Account data: kept while your account is active. Deleted within 30 days of an account-deletion request, except records we must keep for legal or financial reasons.
- Chat history: kept while your account exists. You can delete chats anytime.
- Backups: encrypted, kept up to 30 days.
6. How we protect your data
- All connections are encrypted.
- Passwords are stored in a secure, one-way scrambled form. We never see your real password.
- Payment notifications are checked for authenticity to block fakes.
- AI usage is rate-limited to prevent abuse.
- Reset codes are short-lived (15 minutes), single-use, and limited to 5 tries.
7. Your rights
You can:
- View and edit your profile from Settings.
- Ask for a copy of your data by emailing support.
- Delete your account from Settings — this is permanent and removes your learning history.
- Opt out of marketing email (we only send essential account email today).
If your local law gives you extra rights (such as to request a copy or deletion of your data, or to lodge a complaint with an authority), those rights apply too.
8. Children
Japanse is not aimed at children under 13. If a child created an account, contact us and we will remove it.
9. Where your data lives
Our partners may store your data in different countries (such as Singapore or the United States). By using Japanse you accept that. We choose partners that meet modern security standards.
10. Changes to this policy
Material changes will be announced by email and the “Last updated” date will change. Continuing to use the service after a change means you accept the new version.
